The story of One Piece is usually ordered across sagas, and sagas are composed of multiple arches.

• Romance Dawn Arc: (Manga: 1997) (Anime: 1999)
• Orange Town Arc: (Manga: 1997-1998) (Anime: 1999)
• Syrup Village Arc: (Manga: 1998) (Anime: 2000)
• Baratie Arc: (Manga: 1998-1999) (Anime: 2000)
• Arlong Park Arc: (Manga: 1999) (Anime: 2000)
• Loguetown Arc: (Manga: 1999) (Anime: 2000-2001)

The first one is called Romance Dawn.

The story of Romance Down happens in two different places:

1. The sea.
2. A town called Shells Town, and the Marine base that is there.

So I'm going to guide you through the story in a chronological order, because I think it's really the best way of doing it. And it's tricky because there are two flashback moments, that are crucial, and that give us understanding of the main characters.

So if you add the flashbacks, theese are actually the places in which the story develops:

1. The sea
2. Foosha Village (flashback to Luffy's childhood)
3. Shells Town and the Marine base
4. Shimotsuki Village (flashback to Zoro's childhood)
